Newcastle

Digital Platform

Exhibitionist delivered one of our major 2025 projects - a complete digital transformation project for Newcastle Art Gallery, transforming how the city's premier cultural institution connects with audiences online and manages its extensive collection.

Full-Stack Rebuild

Following comprehensive discovery sessions, we replaced legacy systems with a modern stack built on Sanity CMS and Next.js. The gallery operates within Newcastle City Council, so the platform was built to meet council requirements as well as gallery staff needs.

Core Platform Features

  • Roller ticketing integration for exhibitions and events
  • SSO authentication for members, donors, and visitors
  • Dynamic forms builder for education programs
  • Interactive audio guides via QR codes
  • Complex what's on grid for concurrent programming
  • Advanced collection browsing with filtering
  • Real-time event capacity management

Content Architecture

The media hub houses stories, news, podcasts, and video in a unified system, with content tagged across exhibitions, artists, and collections. Artist profiles dynamically link to artworks, exhibitions, and related media, creating comprehensive directories that evolve with the gallery's program.

Technical Stack

  • Modular component system for flexible layouts
  • Automated image optimization for artworks
  • Multi-tier navigation for complex information architecture
  • Full accessibility compliance
  • Performance monitoring and analytics

2026 Expansion

Next year we're extending into physical spaces—digital signage throughout the gallery will pull from Sanity CMS, ensuring consistent messaging from website to wall labels. We'll integrate eMuseum Plus, creating a seamless pipeline from collection database to public interface, automating artwork updates and enabling richer storytelling.
